FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE * Contact George Garner * nsmhf.director@verizon.net * (518) 587-2609 June 16, 2003 THE MUSEUMS OF SARATOGA LAUNCHES REVAMPED WEBSITE, www.museumsofsaratoga.com The Museums of Saratoga association, an organization joining Saratoga County's museums in a cooperative effort, announces the launch of its revamped website, www.museumsofsaratoga.com. The website contains information targeted to the many different audiences Saratoga's museum community serves, such as Capital District residents, educators, guests, and tourism industry employees. Visitors will find information for their individual needs, such as a calendar of events for museums throughout the county, volunteer and job opportunities, links to area tourism websites, materials for educators, information about our member institutions, and more. First launched in January 2003, the website received over 7,000 hits. The redesigned site is easier for visitors to use, and contains more information. Its designer, George Garner, director of the new National Speedskating Museum and Hall of Fame, said about the site, "We hope this website will become a 'one- stop resource' for everyone we serve to learn more about and use the museums in our backyards." The Museums of Saratoga association is a cooperative effort between fourteen different non-profit museums, historical societies, and exhibiting institutions located in Saratoga County. Started in 2002 through efforts of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, the association assists its members in attracting more visitors (Capital District residents and guests), making it easier for educators to use our member institutions' educational programming, and promoting Saratoga County as a great place to live and visit because of our numerous and diverse cultural offerings. Since its inception the association has worked to create a new museums brochure through the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, published a Hotel Guide for area front desk staff and concierges, offered reciprocal free admission passes for our volunteers, developed a survey of member institution's educational programming for use in a teacher's guide, and more. Any chartered, Saratoga County museum or historical society is welcomed and encouraged to join. -end-
